In the last few years, while home sales in general are way down, green home sales, surprisingly, are up. Green certifications are becoming a strong selling feature. In addition, some construction lenders offer lower interest loans for green built homes.
HomeWrights can consult with you to determine if achieving a LEED certification, an Energy Star Rating, or a HERS score is the best choice for you home and your particular goals.
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
LEED certifies four levels of environmentally sustainable buildings. The LEED levels depend on a variety of construction considerations and require increasingly more stringent adherence to the LEEDs criteria:
Home Energy Rating System
HERS is a United States standard for green building that incorporates the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. As the name suggests, it is focused on the ways homes can be built to better economize on their energy usage.
Energy Star Built Homes
Energy Star homes are minimally 15% more efficient than the homes built to the 2004 International Residential Code (IRC). They typically include energy-saving products and features that can make them up to 20-30% more efficient than homes built to the 2004 IRC. An audit by an independt Home Energy Rater is required to have project officially certified as an "Energy Star Home".
