Home Energy Rating System
HERS is a United States standard for green building that incorporates the 2006 International Energy Conservation Code. As the name suggests, it is focused on the ways homes can be built to better economize on their energy usage.
Like LEEDs, it also utilizes a points system but in reverse. The more energy efficient, the fewer points are added to the home's score. A home built to the HERS standards earns a score of 100. Any home that is more energy effiecient thant the standard gets a lower HERS score: a home with a 95 HERS score is 5% more energy efficient than the standard. The lower the score, the better the home's energy usage.
In order ot obtain a HERS rating, one must have their home audited by a certified HERS energy consultant. Building with HomeWrights give you the advantage of professional coaching that can include planning for HERS from you initial design through the implementation and final energy audit.
